Specialist note

The present subject, eponymous of the Brussels neighborhood where Rodin lived between 1871 and 1877, shows two young children in an embrace—a baby boy is holding on to a winged standing little girl with outstretched arms. The sentimentality and delicate handling of the subject recall the fashionable 18th-century style sculptures of the period.
This cast is the only known example of Idylle d'Ixelles in this size. There is a large version measuring 22 in. (55.9 cm.) in height.
