The octagonal amboyna top surrounded by an ormolu border, the whole raised on carved eagle monopodia headed legs, connected with a stretcher and terminating in claw-and-ball feet, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label

Probably acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tritton for Godmersham Park, Kent, circa 1936.

Specialist note

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tritton bought Godmersham Park in 1936, and not only rescued the house, but filled it with one of the finest post-war collections of English and French furniture of their time. The property once belonged to Jane Austin's brother, Edward Austen Knight, and there are letters written by her describing Godmersham and its beautiful park.
