Agatha Christie
CHRISTIE, Agatha (1890-1976). Why Didn’t they Ask Evans?. London: for The Crime Club by W. Collins Sons & Co. Ltd., 1934.

Presentation copy of the first edition in the dust-jacket, inscribed by the author to her secretary, amanuensis and close friend Charlotte ‘Carlo’ Fisher: ‘Carlo with love from Agatha.’ A wonderful association copy. Hubin p. 80.

Octavo. 2 pages of publisher’s advertisements at end. Original orange cloth, lettered on upper cover and spine in black (slight creases to preliminary free endpaper, very minor spotting to a few leaves, binding slightly skewed, spine and part of lower cover sunned, top edges of boards slightly dust-stained, light spotting to edges, foot of spine and one corner slightly bumped, extremities a trifle rubbed); original pictorial dust-jacket, priced 7/6 on the spine, supplied from another copy (silked on the reverse and expertly restored, especially the spine, edges and folds) and ‘Crime Club Book of the Month’ wrap-around (supplied, restored at spine and along folds). Provenance: Charlotte ‘Carlo’ Fisher (1895-1976, secretary, amanuensis and close friend of Agatha Christie; presentation inscription by the author on front free endpaper, and with Fisher’s posthumous book label).
