VOET, Johann Eusebius (d.1778)
Catalogus Systematicus Coleopterorum. The Hague: G. Bakhuysen, 1806.
One of the finest iconographies on coleoptera ever published. 'Voet was a son of Carel Burchart Voet (1671-1745) who made a beautiful manuscript of Insects and their metamorphoses following closely Goedaert' (Landwehr, pp.238-239). Voet published a portion of the work from 1776, but his death curtailed the venture. In 1804, Bakhuysen acquired the work from Voet's executors, and completed it by 1806. Many of the splendid plates are by C.F.C. Kleemann in the same elaborate manner and preciseness of detail as his other works. The text of this scarce work is written in Latin, French and Dutch which are here bound into separate volumes. BM(NH) V, 2231; Junk, Rara 2:161; Landwehr 201 (calling for 20pp. index present here); Nissen ZBI 4259.

4 volumes including plate volume, quarto (251 x 200mm). Text in Latin, French and Dutch, 2 engraved titles and 20pp. index bound in plate vol., 105 hand-coloured engraved plates (leaf L2 in Latin vol. I torn without loss due to production flaw, occasional very light spotting). Contemporary red half calf over green marbled-paper covered boards (extremities faintly rubbed). Provenance Vittorio Arioli (bookplate) — plate volume interleaved with neat pencil classifications.
