Like his father, Gerrit de Heer, Willem de Heer produced finely executed works in pen on vellum; rarer are his coloured landscapes. Similar to the present, previously unpublished drawings is a pair in the Abrams collection at the Harvard Art Museums, Cambridge (inv. 1.2018.80, 1.2018.81; see W.W. Robinson, Bruegel to Rembrandt.
