RINCE-PINCEAU EN JADE BLANC ET ROUILLE
CHINE, DYNASTIE SONG-MING (960-1644)
La panse est sculptée à l'extérieur d'un dragon à cinq griffes à la poursuite de la perle enflammée dans un entourage de fleurs et feuilles de lotus.
Hauteur : 6 cm. (2 3/8 in.)

Acquired in the art market, the UK, in 2008.

Specialist note

The distinctive style of carving on the jade washer, which features fine details and a dramatic combination of high and low relief carving, is characteristic of Liao, Song, Jin and Yuan-period jade carvings. The 'dragon' decoration is imbued with a remarkable liveliness, thanks to the fluid and bold carving. Compare the carving of the dragon to that seen on a Yuan dynasty jade pendant in The Qing Court collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 42 - Jadeware (II), Hong Kong, 1995, p. 155, no. 127.
