AUGUSTE RODIN (1840-1917)
L’un des Bourgeois de Calais: Tête de Pierre de Wiessant, moyen modèle
signed ‘A. Rodin’ (on the right side of the neck); inscribed with foundry mark ‘Alexis Rudier. Fondeur. Paris’ (on the back of the neck)
bronze with dark brown patina
Height: 4 1/8 in. (10.4 cm.)
Conceived circa 1885-1886; this bronze version cast between 1930 and 1950

Musée Rodin, Paris.
Paul Philippson, Great Britain; sale, Christie’s, London, 4 July 1975, lot 219.
Acquired at the above sale by the family of the present owner.

This work will be included in the forthcoming Auguste Rodin catalogue critique de l'oeuvre sculpté currently being prepared by the Comité Auguste Rodin at Galerie Brame et Lorenceau under the direction of Jérôme Le Blay under the archive number 2010-3308B.
