Specialist note

After immigrating to the United States from Naples, Italy, August Mosca studied at the Yale School of Art, the Pratt Institute, the Grand Central School and the Art Students League in New York City. He is known primarily for his modernist depictions of New York which he began producing in the late 1930s at the encouragement of Joseph Stella, whose influence can be seen in works such as Under the Brooklyn Bridge. An award winning artist in his lifetime, his work was shown in many solo exhibitions including a 50 year retrospective hosted by Grand Central Art Galleries in 1990.
