Specialist note
Iris Barry (1895-1969) was a writer and film critic who helped establish the original London Film Society, and was the first curator of the film department of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Barry lived with Wyndham Lewis from 1918-21 and they had two children together. Lewis bought the dress that Barry wears in this drawing of her. He produced several drawings of her wearing it, culminating in the large painting Praxitella, 1921 (Leeds, City Art Gallery).
