CIRCA 1740, POSSIBLY GENOA
Each with a square seat covered in 18th century silk gros- and petit-point embroidery depicting a central spray of tulips by pheasants and doves, the shaped apron with a central scallop-shell flanked by foliate scrolls, on cabriole legs headed by scallop-shells and terminating in scroll-feet with palmette motif, probably re-gilt, the rail numbered in pencil '7190'

Specialist note

A stool with identical scallop-shell flanked by foliage to the seat-rail with legs headed by a similar palmette and husk-trails from the collection of 'La Princesse de X.', was sold Sotheby Parke Bernet, Monaco, 24 - 25 June 1984, lot 3211.
