engraving, 1544, on laid paper, watermark Two crossed Arrows surmounted by a Star (Massari 77, similar to Woodward 196; first recorded Venice, 1566), a fine, rich impression of the first state (of two), printing darkly and with good contrasts, trimmed to or just outside the borderline, some skilful restorations

Specialist note

Albeit with some changes, especially in the addition of some fantastical creatures, the composition is based on Raphael's fresco in the third vault of so-called Logge in the Vatican.
