Specialist note

Born in Scotland, William Young (1755-1829) immigrated to America and started a paper mill in Wilmington, Delaware. He later relocated to Philadelphia where he published a newspaper. A portrait miniature of Young by James Peale is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2006.235.145).
