Specialist note

The present watch, distinguished by its exceptional condition, is believed to be from a small series of openface dress watches, ref. 600/1, specially ordered in memory of King Abdul Aziz al Saud who had passed away. The watches were all fitted with ivory-coloured enamel dials with ruby-set numerals bearing the King's portrait and given as gifts to dignitaries or friends of His Majesty.

Abdul Aziz Al Saud, King (Malik) of Saudi Arabia (1876-1953), was the first monarch of The Third Saudi State known as Saudi Arabia. Of his full name Abdul Aziz bin Abdur Rahman Al Saud, he was commonly referred to as ibn Saud.
