Specialist note

This endangered species strap is shown for display purposes only and is not for sale.

The present reference, which was reportedly produced from 2008 to 2014, appears very rarely at auctions. So rare that we tend to consider it vanishingly rare, and it might not even make it into the Audemars Piguet perpetual calendar reviews.

The watch was produced in two versions – the present reference with a chocolate-brown dial, and Ref. 26252OR.OO.D092CR.02 with a matt silvered dial, both in rose gold. Although these reference examples on a bracelet occasionally appear on the market, there is reason to believe that the launch of Ref. 26252OR was undertaken by Audemars Piguet as an alternative to the standard reference 25820 offered exclusively on a bracelet.

A study of Audemars Piguet’s perpetual calendar offer on the market provides a simple answer as to why the brand undertook to issue a reference on a leather strap – there are no other Royal Oak perpetual calendar references fitted with a strap. All this leads us to believe the appearance of the present lot at this sale is a rare and lucky chance to acquire a perpetual calendar of one of the rarest references.
