Acquired directly from the artist by Joseph F. McCrindle circa 1974.
A gift from the above to the present owner in 1999.

Specialist note

Joseph F. McCrindle (1923-2008) was an American art collector, philanthropist and founder and editor of Transatlantic Review which operated from 1959 until 1977. Based in New York and London, McCrindle amassed a distinguished and eclectic collection which spanned over five centuries, including Modern British Art, Pre-Columbian Sculptures and Old Master paintings. Much of McCrindle’s collection was bequeathed to over 30 public institutions worldwide, including the Frick Collection, New York; the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; and the National Gallery of Art, London, to name a few.
