KARL SCHMIDT-ROTTLUFF (1884-1976)
Villa mit Turm
woodcut, 1911, on Zanders laid paper, watermark Rampant Lion with Initials JWZ, signed in pencil, numbered V., a very good impression, printed by the artist, possibly before the small, unnumbered edition printed in 1919
Block 500 x 394 mm.
Sheet 618 x 505 mm.

Presumably with Ferdinand Möller (1882-1956), Berlin and Zermützel (without his stamp).
With Maria Möller-Garny (1886-1971), Cologne; presumably by descent from the above.
Acquired by Deutsche Bank from the above on 1 Oktober 1970.

Note du spécialiste

Most known impressions of this woodcut, from the edition printed in 1919, appear to be on wove paper. The fact that the present impression is on laid paper and lacks the work number 195 may indicate that it is an early impression printed in 1911, just after the block was cut.
