Specialist note
Made for the 400th anniversary of his death, the Vacheron Constantin Mercator draws its inspiration from the 16th century cartographer Gerardus Mercator.
Gerardus Mercator was a trail blazer of cartography who became famous for his contribution to mapping the world during the 16th century from his home in Belgium.
The engraved enamel dial depicts the hand drawn maps of Gerardus Mercator from 1587, of the American Continent or as in this instance - Europe, Africa and Asia. The detailed enamel work is faithfully reproduced on each dial by Lucie and Jean Genbrugge, enamellers of Broechem Belgium.
