Specialist note
Few reference 3800⁄1 were made in precious metals, this watch is one of the rarely seen 18k white gold versions of this legendary mid-size Nautilus model. The property of a private collector, it is also fresh to the market. The present highly attractive white dial with white gold baton indexes is a replacement for the black matte dial with applied Roman numerals that was originally supplied with the watch as stated on the Extract from the Archives. However, whilst the Extract mentions that “The current white dial is not mentioned in our Archives” it is undoubtedly a fine and rare authentic Patek Philippe white dial that was presumably fitted by a previous owner.
Reference 3800/1
Reference 3800⁄1 was in production from 1981 to 2006 and offered an alternative to larger sized ‘Jumbo’ Nautilus watches. Considered three-quarter sized, it was available in a large array of styles in all four case metals as well as in two-tone cases.
The reference 3800 is an iconic and important watch, it pays homage to the original Nautilus reference 3700 with a similar design and aesthetic and with the addition of a centre seconds hand.
