JOHN VARLEY, O.W.S. (LONDON 1778-1842)

Varley probably travelled through Herefordshire on his way to Wales. Another view of Goodrich, looking downstream on the River Wye, is dated to 1833 and at the National Museum Wales, Cardiff. The foliage covered ruin explores ideas of the picturesque.
