Specialist note
With elaborate brass mounts and lion’s paw feet adorned by gilded acanthus leaves, this pier table labeled and stamped by Charles-Honoré Lannuier exhibits his classical style. The mount in the center depicts the implements of war and is marked CA on the reverse, which perhaps indicates the foundry, although none with these initials could be located. For further information see Peter Kenny, Frances Bretter, and Ulrich Leben, Honoré Lannuier, Cabinetmaker from Paris: The Life and Work of a French Ébeniste in Federal New York (New York, 1998), pp. 170 and 218.
