Specialist note

Also known as “Modèle Lanvin”, this table lamp design was featured in fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin’s interior, alongside other works by Armand Albert Rateau. Pictured in the library of her hôtel particulier, rue Barbet-de-Jouy in Paris, the reeded balustrated base echoes the bronze legs of the Rateau tables and desk. Flawless in its proportions, and of prodigious quality of execution, this lamp epitomizes Rateau’s unique skill at conceiving elegant, modern artefacts that ornated his interiors. This model was exhibited at Le Décor de la vie de 1900 à 1925, at the Pavillon de Marsan, Musée du Louvre in 1937. The present lot is a remarkable example, in great condition and coming from the collection of the artist’s family.
