Specialist note

In an effort to produce a sound that was less produced and more raw in the early 90s, Rodgers was inspired by rock guitarists Steve Via, Steve Stevens, and Charlie Sexton (who worked with Rodgers on the Thelma & Louise soundtrack) to purchase this Gray Pearl Jackson. According to Rodgers: “I was going to do more rock stuff because rock bands and rock albums were primarily being made the way that Chic albums were made—they were still basically live. We went into the studio like when I did the David Lee Roth album [Your Filthy Little Mouth, released in 1994]. We went in there and we just played it. Just like what I’m doing with [English rock band] The Zutons now. We have six songs cut in two days. 'Cause they’re a live band, and they’re singing at the same time, it’s like, just unbelievable.”
