CHARLES EPHRAIM BURCHFIELD (1893-1967)

The present work was executed on February 22, 1917 during Charles Burchfield's self-proclaimed "golden year," when he prolifically sketched and painted the world around his Salem, Ohio home. On a piece of the original backing, the artist writes, "A view from the window of the office of the Mullins Co, where I worked. A calm winter afternoon, with the smoke going straight up into the still air."
