Offered in very good overall condition, the present example is from the first series of the model of the Chronometre Souverain. The model was available in 18k pink gold and platinum, distinguished by an engine-turned silvered dials with blued hands and a 40 mm. case.
Launched in 2005, the Chronomètre Souverain is a precision chronometer inspired by the marine chronometers of the early 19th century. Constructed in the purest chronometric tradition, it is fitted with an ultra-slim movement, base plate and bridges in 18K pink gold. The twin barrels provide a power reserve of over 56 hours, the escapement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The Chronomètre Souverain won the Best Men’s Watch award at Geneva’s prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie in 2005.

François-Paul Journe was born in Marseille in 1957. He graduated from the Paris School of Watchmaking in 1976 and immediately joined forces with his uncle, a noted restorer of antique timepieces. Before creating his own complete line of wristwatches, Journe restored some of the world's most important historical timepieces, devised and built unique pocket watches to order and designed and made complications for prestigious watch brands.
In 1996, Journe established a workshop in Geneva, designing and making watch mechanisms for other brands. Three years later, in 1999, he launched his own watches under the label "F.P. Journe Invenit et Fecit".
