Dial: White enamel, Arabic numerals, signed
Case: Bezel with translucent grey lilac enamel on engine-turned ground with white enamel border, the back with translucent lilac enamel on engine-turned ground, white enamel floral scrolls to the edge, pierced diamond-set rosette to the centre, rose-cut diamond and platinum openwork frame and scrolled pendant hoop, amethyst-set crown, 33 mm. diam., signed
With: Matching chain decorated with translucent lilac and white enamel links, Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present openfaced watch in 18K yellow gold, back cover in platinum, enamel dial, Dauphine hour markers, hands in Louis XV style in 1910 and its subsequent sale on 17 November 1910. The Extract further confirms the enamel centered by rosette in platinum, rose-cut diamond frame, amethyst.

Specialist note

This exquisite and very elegant jewelled pendant watch is a wonderful example of Belle Epoque style from the golden period of luxury at the beginning of the 20th century, still as wearable and glamourous today as it was over a hundred years ago. Fine enamel work was particularly in vogue at the time, all the great jewellery and watch houses producing pieces inspired by the Russian jeweller Fabergé.

The use of platinum was a very modern idea introduced by Cartier and Boucheron which soon caught on. Platinum when combined with diamonds and enamel creates a scintillating effect, add the name of Patek Philippe and the piece becomes truly special and of course highly desirable.
