"There are quite a few of us right now in Honfleur... Boudin and Jongkind are here and we are getting on famously. I am sorry that you are not here because in such company, there is much to learn and the natural surroundings are starting to be beautiful..."
Claude Monet.
The Saint-Siméon farm was a destination for all of Honfleur's fishermen before it became a favourite of the Parisian and Norman artists and poets who flocked there. Starting from 1854, Boudin was in the habit of resting in this calm, bucolic setting. In 1862, Claude Monet ‒ 22 at the time ‒ and Jongkind accompanied Boudin during his walks along the Normandy coast and discovered outdoor painting with him.
At the end of his life, recalling these dazzling days, Boudin would write to his friend Jehan Soudan: "Oh! Saint-Siméon, there would be a beautiful tale to write about that hostelry! So many people and celebrities passed through in my wake."
