McCarron notes, "The impression in the collection of the New York Public Library has the notation 'trial No. 9—imp—1st trial after softening lights on the roadway—added work in upper right corner.' Trial proof nos. 1-8 were pulled from the first state and nos. 9-12 from the second state."
