Specialist note
The superb quality of this table, the use of the finest solid hardwoods and its sophisticated design tie it to the workshop of one of the metropolitan makers of the later 18th century. One strong candidate would be the cabinet-makers Ince & Mayhew who frequently employed the distinctive ebonised edge and fine chequer banding as seen here.
