This trade sign was discovered in the basement of the Ditmars’ house, a stage stop or road-house, in Clementsport, Novia Scotia (Richard Henning Field, Spirit of Nova Scotia: Traditional Decorative Folk Art 1780-1930 (Toronto, 1985), no. 85).
