Ubaldo Oppi (1889-1946)

"Vicina alla Giovane donna al balcone, di cui riprende il motivo della decorazione del fazzoletto, La pastorella è un esempio della ricerca volumetrica dell'artista, che in questi anni sbalza la figura in un tutto-tondo compatto, senza incrinature. L'opera, però, rivela anche l'attenzione di Oppi per il mondo contadino, ripensato senza compiacimenti o verismi strapaesani, ma come un ideale senza tempo. La ragazza esibisce alcuni elementi realistici (il bastone per condurre il gregge, il fazzoletto per ripararsi dal sole), ma la sua figura rivela soprattutto una nobiltà statuaria, ribadita dalla semplicità sintetica della veste”.
La pastorella è esposta per la prima volta nella personale di Oppi alla galleria Pesaro, nel febbraio 1927: una mostra dedicata prevalentemente al paesaggio e alle figure del Cadore.
"Close to the Giovane donna al balcone (Young Woman on the Balcony), from which the decorative motif of the handkerchief is taken, La Pastorella (The Shepherdess) is an example of the artist's volumetric research, which in recent years embossed the figure to create a compact round, without any cracks. However, it also reveals Oppi's attention to the country world, rethought without complacency or native realism, but as a timeless ideal. The girl exhibits some realistic elements (the stick used to lead the flock, a handkerchief to shelter her from the sun) , but his figure reveals above all a statuary nobility, reaffirmed by the synthetic simplicity of the dress".
La Pastorella (The Shepherdess) was exhibited for the first time in Oppi's solo show of February 1927 at the Pesaro Gallery: an exhibition mainly dedicated to the landscape and the figures of Cadore.
