The earred rectangular top with three-quarter balustrade gallery and inset with gilt-embossed leather writing surface above a central freize drawer with acanthus and floral garland entrelace mount to both the front and reverse, flanked to each side with two short drawers with ebony-strung trellis parquetry and shield escutcheons each side with leather-inset slide writing surface and corresponding parquetry centred by flower-filled urn mount above a shaped apron, on fluted tapering legs, signed and dated 'henry Dasson 1879' and stamped 'HENRY DASSON / 1879'

Specialist note

This bureau plat, displaying mounts and motifs unique to Riesener's oeuvre, is an exemplary replica by Henry Dasson of a celebrated bureau delivered by Riesener in 1784 for the Cabinet Intérieur du Roi at Fontainebleau, now lost.
