Oval, 37 mm. high, gilt-metal bracelet frame with diamond-set surround, the reverse engraved 'Henry 12th Earl / and / 1st Marquess of Clanricarde'

By descent from the sitter to Hubert George de Burgh-Canning, 2nd Marquess of Clanricarde (1832-1916), by whom bequeathed to his great-nephew, Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood (1882- 1947), and by descent at Harewood House, Yorkshire.

Specialist note

The sitter was the son of John Smith de Burgh, 11th Earl of Clanricarde. He was an MP in the Irish House of Commons representing Galway County. He was a Knight of the Order of St Patrick and a member of the Privy Council of Ireland and Governor and Custos Rotulorum of County Galway.
