Specialist note

The present work is a full-size bronze head for the Thomas Hardy Memorial, which Kennington designed in 1929-31, situated in Dorchester. Built to commemorate Hardy’s life and works, three years after his death, Sir James Matthew Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, unveiled the Grade II listed statue in September 1931.
