Specialist note


The horses Rhum (Lot 30) and Messaline belonged to Mrs. Louise Emmett, who commissioned the present sculptures from Haseltine directly. Haseltine recalled, "I visited the Emmets again to do more work on the Percherons; later Mrs. Emmet gave me an order for the Rhum and Messaline with Foal group; these were cast by the sand process by Rudier with a green patina and similar ornamentations like the previous bronzes."
