Sir Michael Sobell (1892-1993) was a British businessman and pioneer in electronics, founding the Radio & Allied Industries Ltd. which became one of Britain’s largest producers of television sets. His fortune financed his passion for horse racing allowing him to purchase Ballymacoll stud farm, breeding thoroughbreds with many notable successes which he later sold H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II. He was also a great philanthropist setting up the Anne and Michael Sobell Trust in 1962.
