First edition of the first two parts of a comprehensive illustrated survey of engineering and technology. ‘Leupold was one of the major transmitters of the machine designs and technological images of Francesco di Giorgio Martini (1439-1501), the Sienese painter, sculptor and architect whose writings and drawings provided the chief source of inspiration […] for several generations of engineers’ (Norman).
