ROLEX. A RARE PLASTIC-ENCASED DISPLAY AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH MOVEMENT

It can be assumed that the present display model was made for training and presentation purposes, to be used by the firms’ retailers to show the in-house calibre 4130 automatic chronograph movement. Not available to the public the present example is one of the very few to appear at auction.

Since 2000, the celebrated Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with calibre 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Its architecture incorporates far fewer components than a standard chronograph, thereby enhancing its reliability. Like all Rolex automatic movements, the 4130 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. It features a Parachrom hairspring, offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations, and an increased power reserve of 72 hours compared to its predecessors 54
