Specialist note

The present reference 5396R is offered in excellent overall condition and sold with the full set of accessories. The property of an important private Swiss collector, the wristwatch was sold directly from the prestigious Patek Philippe Geneva Salons and kept with the upmost care throughout the years.

Reminiscent of vintage timepieces of the manufacture, the dial of the present timepiece features a highly attractive two-tone sector or aviator dial. With its modern yet classic design, the reference quickly became a classic amongst Patek Philippe collectors and is always highly coveted at auction.

Reference 5396

Reference 5396 was introduced to the market in 2006 and pays tribute to the firm's celebrated Calatrava model, launched in the 1930s. The smooth pink gold case is of the distinctive, classic round Calatrava style of reference 96 and stands out by its large size. The appealing graphic design of the dial is inspired from a late 1930s historical "Calatrava" wristwatch, on permanent exhibition at Patek Philippe's prestigious museum in Geneva. With its double railway track scale this well-proportioned two-tone silvered dial adds a subtle technical flourish to reference 5396 which furthermore differs from the other annual calendar models by its striking new design: for the first time, this patented mechanism features twin in-line day and month apertures beneath 12 o'clock.
