OEuvre à la dimension autobiographique, ce dessin a été réalisé en réaction à la réception de l’Ordre public règne aussi à Paris, par Grandville, un des artistes caricaturiste les plus populaires de France. Il y dénonce la répression sanglante d’une manifestation de la police. La publication de ce dessin aboutira à sa tentative d’arrestation. Elle relate cet épisode de manière fantaisiste, les forces de polices étant décrites comme des insectes responsables du choléra. Pour la publication, Grandville apporte quelques modifications à la composition, comme en témoignent le texte imprimé mais également le dessin qui servi probablement de modèle (Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie, inv. 222).

A work of autobiographical significance, this drawing was made in reaction to the reception of L’ordre public règne aussi à Paris by Grandville, one of France’s most popular caricaturists. In it, he denounced the bloody repression of a demonstration by the police. The publication led to an attempt to arrest him at home, and the present drawing gives a fanciful impression of the event, with the police forces depicted as insects causing cholera. For publication, Grandville made some changes to the intricate composition, as evident from both the print itself and the drawing that probably served as its model (Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie, inv. 222).
