The first edition of Portlock’s account of the first commercial journey to the Pacific Northwest, chartered by the South Sea Company for the purpose of fur trading. After a long stopover in Hawaii, the expedition surveyed the Western coast of America and then sailed for China. Captains Portlock and Dixon had served together on Cook’s third voyage, and Portlock here includes many vivid details about that journey as well.
