Specialist note
Introduced in late 1960s, the reference 1680 was the first Submariner to feature a date indicator as well as the cyclops magnifier. Distinguished by its red Submariner printing to the dial, the “Red Sub” as it is known to collectors has become a cult classic.
In attractive overall condition, this example of the highly coveted reference stands out through its very warm and appealing tropical dial with red Submariner script. Gradually changing from black to a dark brown color, the present single red “meter first” dial is allied to a stainless steel case of strong proportions, bearing a serial number usually seen on examples with dials featuring the “feet first” script.
