Specialist note

The stone used in the bodies of these cassolettes is very unusual for Boulton’s oeuvre. The design for this model is illustrated in Boulton and Fothergill’s Pattern Book I, p.170 (N. Goodison, Ormolu: The Work of Matthew Boulton, London, 1974, fig.161).
