Specialist note
Most interestingly, Payne infers that the simple mahogany veneers of the present commode, sans the colorful fruitwood marquetry of Riesener's original, emulates the faded condition in which many burgeoning ébénistes of the mid-19th century, such as Dasson, would have observed the piece when displayed at the London, Bethnel Green exhibition of 1872-1875. The Riesener commode, now restored to its original splendor, resides in The Wallace Collection, London (inv. F248). Another example of this model by Dasson is illustrated in C. Payne, Paris Furniture: The Luxury Market of the 19th Century, 2018, p. 192.
