Patek Philippe replaced the reference 3648 "Ellipse" with the reference 3848, seen here. This model was made from 1977 to 1998. The main differences between the ref. 3648 and the 3848 are the case maker, movement, and bezel cut. The exquisite blue dial on this model is made from gold that has been transformed by a special Patek Philippe process to look blue.
