Specialist note

This work is a study for a larger watercolor, dated February 1833, sold by Spink London on the 18th of March 1982. During this time, Lear worked for Lord Derby at Knowsley, president of the Zoological and Linnean Societies. Lear produced numerous illustrations of the animals in the Knowsley menagerie.
