Lot 1267 FROM A PRIVATE JAPANESE COLLECTION (LOTS 1265-1269)
This collection of five Wu Changshuo paintings from Japanese collections are from two well-known collectors. Lots 1265-1268 are from the collection of Matsumaru Togyo (1901-1975), a Japanese seal carver who was deeply influenced by the works of Deng Shiru, Zhao Zhiqian, and Wu Changshuo. Some works in his collection still have Matsumaru’s wooden boxes. These four works have been included in Suzuki Kei’s Comprehensive Illustrated Catalogue of Chinese Paintings published in 1983. Lot 1269 belonged to Miyata Takeyoshi (1891-1993).
Classical paintings and calligraphy from this collection will be offered in Christie’s Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy sale held in 28 May, 2018 (lots 1032-1034)
