Specialist note
The inscription on the shield refers to Psalm 31 in the Bible, verses 15 & 16: "My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me."
A different version of Father Time, holding a watch mounted in porcelain frame, was modeled by J. J. Kändler at about the same time as the present example by Eberlein. For a similar example, see E. Pauls-Eisenbeiss, German Porcelain of the 18th Century: The Pauls Collection, London, 1972, vol. I, pp. 128-9.
