A PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT RABBITS
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-95)
Modeled seated on their haunches with ears erect, their spotted coats in brown markings
5 ½ in. (14 cm.) high

Acquired from H. Blairman & Sons, London, July 1947.

Specialist note

Rabbits have long been a symbol of longevity in China, closely associated with the moon. A single example of this model, also with brown spotted coat, was in the collection of Mrs. Lammot du Pont Copeland (illustrated by W.R. Sargent, op. cit., p. 234).
