Probablement inspiré par la compagna romaine plutôt que par un site précis, la composition de ce dessin est similaire à celle d’autres études réalisées dans les années 1850 (A. Robaut, L’Œuvre de Corot, Paris 1905, vol. 1, ill. p. 125, 143). La coupole évoque Saint-Pierre, ainsi que l’église construite par le Bernin à Ariccia.
Probably inspired by the Roman campagna rather than an accurate record of it, the drawing’s composition is similar to other examples from the 1850s (A. Robaut, L’Œuvre de Corot, Paris 1905, vol. 1, ill. p. 125, 143). The cupola brings to mind Saint Peter’s, as well as
Bernini's church at Ariccia.
