Considered one the most beautiful chronographs of the mid-20th century, Reference 1463 is Patek Philippe's regular production vintage chronograph model (aside from the 1563) with screw back case and round pushers.
This “second series” reference 1463 was sold in 1954 in the midst of the second series production which ran from 1945 and ceased in 1961. The case of this water-resistant 1463 was made by renowned case maker Taubert (formerly Freres Borgel) and was considered a sports watch in its day for its water and dust resistant case combined with a chronograph.
With a striking appearance, the present watch is offered with a handsome black gloss dial with contrasting white scales. Housed within a bold yellow gold case, it is a timepiece that cannot be overlooked. What is perhaps most notable about the case, however, is the designation of S.& L .to the case back, a mark from the famous Venezuelan retailer, Serpico Y Laino.
The reference 1463 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wriswatches by M. Huber and A. Banberry, 1988, plate 348, p. 206.
